carbonated ink : one man's struggle against boredom

A problem with prose

[]    things of paper : 26. May 2004, 15:18

I’ve burnt myself out. I can’t read literature any more, at least not the one’s that contains exclusively prose. I can’t get more than a few pages in and then it stops unless it’s really, really tremendously good. I know when it happened too. I can pinpoint the exact time. May 10th 17:38, I was reading the book for the upcoming booktalk as I cooked food. Then it hit me, “I like the way she writes and use of language but I can’t care less about these characters.” I couldn’t read another page. So I tried something else but that stalled after the first chapter. The same thing happened to the next and the next.

Non-fiction works fine, no problem there thank God. And I think some fiction can work, but most of it just seems really uninteresting and that includes books I’ve been dying to read for a long time.

  1. And this is why I masturbate instead of reading books.

    Oh.

    Or not. At. All.

Picking up a book gives me ADD, most of the times.

By the way, I saw Shrek 2 yesterday, and recorded it to VHS. Acctually I didn’t see the hole thing, because I had to wash my dishes. But the first 15 minutes and the last 10 was pretty good, I guess. I dunno really, because when I finally did place my skinny hairy ass in front of the TV, I picked up the guitar.

    Moives gives me ADD too.

  3. Boo: Oh. Sorry. You should have mailed me, dude – now I missed your comment! ;) Now I’m at work. The video is going to Ryssby, but I could burn the files to CD (I think). But not before fika today, because I’m – yeah yeah – at work. Maybe I can burn the crap to CD, then drop it of in Alvesta when driving to Ryssby on saturday/sunday…?

  4. And why the bloody hell am I writing this here, and not in an e-mail? God dammit.

  5. Tommy: Know I’m confused. I have an answer, but should I give it here or in an e-mail? The length of the anwser should’t differ very much. I’ll probobly try to sign the mail with something a little bit funny, though. On the other hand, here I don’t have to sign at all, since my name already is in the box. Plus I’m here now and don’t have to click my way to the mail. Yeah, I do see pros and cons with both variants. I’ll let you know how it turned out!
