The Dead Lives! -- sort of.

[]    comics : 15. May 2004, 17:29

The big problem with The Walking Dead is also one of it’s virtues. The pace. It’s slow and unrelenting just like the zombie-movies of old. The new breed of zombies that has emerged on the cinema from Evil Dead and since has mainly destroyed the notion that pace is a part of the mood. This means there’s a slope in the middle of volume one where Rick meets the other survivors and how they re-establish connections. Nothing much happens apart from the daily life in the camp. It works, and it’s needed, but I can’t help to feel this wouldn’t work nearly as well in single issues. It’s far from the splatter fests the presence of zombies normally conveys—it’s more of a story about people and their petty feelings.
