District X
District X is the first X-title I’ve bought since… it been a long while actually. But then I don’t count the New X-men collections that I’ve begun to pick up earlier this week. But this looked interesting. The cop drama and superpowers have been done several times before. Top 10, POWERS and Gotham Central. Of these three, I like Powers the best, mainly because it doesn’t hinge on continuity or previous comic autism to find all the details.
So is District X any good? Well, yeah, I think so. It has its share of clichés, such as the bigoted cop who don’t like mutants—but that wasn’t unexpected given view held on these by the normal Marvel Universe city-dweller. The first issue is mainly a set-up to get Bishop inside the police force. But the fact that everything is a big set-up means—although the flashback sequence that makes up most of it is well done—it lacks a dynamic tension. But Bishop seems like a cool dude for once and the title is promising.
