Flight vol 2
For some reason, I managed to let Flight vol 1 slip on by without even noticing it. Don’t know why, but after reading a bit more than about half of Flight vol 2 I see I must hunt down and get the first one too. This is good. Damn good.
As always, Becky Cloonan has produced wonderfull art, but this time, what she does with it leaves me rather cold. So far, that was the “worst” bit of the book. That and Don Hertzfeldt’s one-squared comic strips that looks like postits. They make me feel good but no, they don’t quite work as well when lined up next to each other like that.
The dab parts are not necessarily bad, just not as good as the rest. The entire anthology has set a fucking huge bar and the fact that tehy surpasses each other the whole time is just ‘mazing.
Easily one of the best things this year so far. Flight 2. Hope there’s a Flight 3 in the future.
I think you are totally misunderstanding the Hertzfeldt piece.
Don’t read it like it’s a bunch of separate one-pieces that “are all lined up together”. That doesn’t make sense. It is a narrative, it’s just very unconventional. Read it like a story, or a poem.
It’s actually very beautiful and haunting.
